Gold Rush Days

Held during the second weekend in June, this celebration of the Sidney/Black Hills Gold Rush includes musical performances, storytelling, cookouts and historical displays.

During the late 1800s, Sidney was called the “Toughest Town on the Tracks”. Why? Thanks to the Union Pacific Railroad and the discovery of gold in the Black Hills of South Dakota, Sidney became a lawless, Wild West boomtown and the starting point of the Deadwood Trail. Gold Rush Days was created to celebrate Sidney’s exciting history and it takes place annually on the second weekend of June. Activities include quick draw competitions, wagon rides and hands-on gold panning demonstrations, plus there are craftsmen who demonstrate blacksmithing, quilting, weaving, knitting, woodworking, leather tanning and more.

Cheyenne County Fair and Rodeo

Quite possibly Cheyenne County’s biggest draw, this celebration is held for an entire week in July. Nightly attractions include a PRCA rodeo, music concerts, tractor and truck pulls, and a demolition derby. Weeklong attractions include 4-H events, carnival rides and, of course, Fair Food!

Potter Car-Bowl

If you visit Potter, Nebraska during the last weekend in June, you’re sure to have a great time. People from everywhere gather in Potter for a jaw-dropping car show that happens right in the streets.

If classic cars aren’t your thing, you can compete in the duckpin bowling tournament in one of the few remaining and full-restored duckpin bowling alleys around. Other activities include an antique tractor show, BBQ cook-offs, a craft show, live community melodrama, pinewood derby, live music, auctions, raffles, rodeo events, and firework display in the evening.

Taking place the first full weekend in October, Oktoberfest has it all – continuous live multi-ethnic entertainment all day, dancing performances, bagpipes, live bands and food vendors selling brats, cold beer and more – and all of this nonstop entertainment is found under one giant tent.

This celebration even includes a huge parade on Saturday morning that always lasts well over an hour. There’s also a car show, a golf tournament, oh, and cold beer!

This family friendly event includes lots of marching bands, antique vehicles and floats that throw tons of candy to the kids. A worthwhile stop for the whole family.

Sidney Farmers Market / Music in Hickory Square

The Great Downtown Sidney Farmers Market is open each Saturday morning beginning in late May and running through the middle of October each year. The hours of the market are 8:00 am to noon each Saturday. Vendors come from all around the area to sell their wares.
